The History of Sigma Delta Phi

Sigma Delta Phi is a local organization originally founded at Montclair State University in 1947 by Dr. Shirley Cecil Siegel Greenfield. Our colors are pink and black and our lovely mascot is the pink panther. We are committed to providing a mechanism of empowerment to all women. We strive to stimulate women towards the pursuit of education, independence and success while promoting unity and integrity. Through acts of leadership, support and friendship we aim to unite our members, as well as all women of the community, in a bond of strong, independent sisterhood.

Sigma Delta Phi is filled with diverse, well rounded women who make the sorority very unique and appeal to everyone! Our biggest philanthropy is Susan G. Komen. Some events/fundraisers we host are the Wing eating contest, Breast Cancer Date Auction, and boating for boobies. We participate in many other Greek organization philanthropies and co-sponsor many different philanthropies. For example, we co-sponsor Pike Hike, which raises money for the 9/11 cause, Lasso prom, and many more.Besides fundraising and community service, we also have Cotillion, formal and semi-formals. These events have been around for many years and make our sisterhood bond even stronger. Our Brother Fraternity is Kappa Xi Kappa who is a local fraternity at NJIT. We have been brother/sisters since 1984. We do many bonding activities with them like summer BBQ’s, Rafting, and fundraising events.
